The 80's - I was kickin' it casual all over the golden era of bad haircuts, fluoro clothes, and misunderstood hip-hop icons. However, I was far too engrossed in playing 'Cops & Robbers', or 'Batman & Robin' to pay attention to what was spinning on the radio, or what discolicious music video was being premiered on the all new music television... The background music to my coming of age story was simply that - white noise lost inside my attention deficit imagination.
Perhaps, this is why 'Generation Y' is so eagerly embracing the insurgence of electro-pop/disco that is saturating the airwaves at the moment - the 80's has made its triumphant return! All us little nippers that missed out on the first wave of dance-floor fever are being heavily compensated for our loss - and boy are we making up for it!
Frankmusik is one of myriad electro-pop sensations to jump on the scene in the last year. There is nothing particularly unique about this young British lad, but his songs are a lot of fun and don't have the same indie-hipster pretentiousness as many of his scene associates. Complete Me is not a great album... There are moments of pop overindulgence when it even becomes Metro Station-esque (cringe!). But, there are some good tracks. 'In Step' boasts the catchiest chorus hook since those Kids of 88 boys dropped 'My House', and '3 Little Words' is a toe-tapping pop-a-long despite being coated in lyrical cheese. Have a look at the video, download the free tracks, and reminisce on the glory days when we didn't give a crap about anything... except having fun.
