RAC Vol. 1

I was introduced to RAC at a party when my friends Brad and Emma hijacked my iPod. By hijacked I mean - they unplugged it mid way through one of my favourite tracks (Proxy - Dance In The Dark) and ever so self-indulgently plugged in their own. So, I guess you could say RAC and I did not meet under the most diplomatic of circumstances, which potentially provoked my initial, subliminal disinterest.

But, time heals all wounds. And RAC was like that pesky little kid down at the park (we all know the one), that would always so tenaciously chant - "Can I have a turn?"

RAC = Remix Artist Collective. It was founded in 2007 by Andre Allen Anjo who has since recruited three other producers - Aaron Jasinksi (Seattle), Chris Angelovski (The Netherlands), and Andrew Maury (New York), who have still yet to meet in person.

The vision of Remix Artist Collective is to reinterpret and reinvent tracks, not to simply pull them apart to make them danceable. They create new incarnations of their favourite tracks without sacrificing the original instrumentation and structure that made them brilliant to begin with. Andre Anjo states, "I hope people experience the original songs in a different way that not only compliments the original, but takes them somewhere else".

RAC have already remixed an entourage of the 'who's who' in music right now, including the likes of Kings Of Leon, Bloc Party, The Shins and Radiohead. They are currently giving away a collection of previously unreleased remixes entitled Vol. 1 for free distribution online. You can listen to all nine tracks below, and if you would like to download RAC - Vol.1 for yourself there will be a link at the bottom of this post. Enjoy :)

And here's a couple of RAC mixes that aren't included in Vol. 1, but are worth checking out.
