R&V 2009 - The Proxy

The Proxy is Russian… and when you listen to his music it all makes sense - it’s nasty, raw and relentless. You could picture a wrinkled and weathered old man in a Ushanka and a military uniform listening to The Proxy whilst sipping on vodka and chain smoking. This is all horrendously stereotypical of course, but The Proxy has this rough and ready attitude that is unique and compelling - and distinctively Russian.

Tracks like ‘Dance in the Dark’ could be the theme music to a battle scene – with tanks, AK-47’s, and Molotov cocktails wreaking destruction. And '40 Seconds' needs no added salt with the vocal line commanding “Please, put down your weapon”. Heck, even his myspace profile picture is an animated image of a soldier letting loose with a flamethrower!

Check out this live video far a little taste of live Proxy mayhem...

However, there is always the chance that I’m reading too far into the music, creating historical parallels from the darkest depths of my imagination – there is always the chance that this young Russian just likes to party. His tracks have been destroying dance-floors worldwide, and he has produced remixes for dance music heavyweights such as Tiga, Digitalism, Zombie Nation and Moby. With a back catalogue of bangers already under his belt, and a debut full-length expected for 2010, The Proxy is a definite ‘must see’ at Rhythm & Vines 2009.
