VAMPIRE WEEKEND - HORCHATA

...'In December, drinking Horchata - I'd look psychotic in a balaclava'

Vampire Weekend recently released the first song from their up-coming sophomore album 'Contra' due out January 11, 2010.

Horchata, for those who don't know (I had no idea!), is a milk-like drink with a number of different recipes across various continents. The one Ezra Koenig is most likely referring to is the Mexican variety comprised of rice, almonds, cinnamon, lime zest, and sugar. It is often used as a milk substitute for the lactose intolerant, is most commonly served at breakfast time, and is rumored to be a cure for the dreaded hangover. Sounds delicious!

And believe me, it is! Horchata is a tasty little treat perfect for a morning stroll or an evening with friends sipping tea on the front porch. It's quirky and cute and wouldn't sound astray on a Sufjan Stevens record (which is a good thing!). If this track is anything to go by, 'Contra' may just have become one of my most anticipated releases for this summer.
